Next Steps – The Basics
Once you or loved one has decided that an assisted living residence is a good next step, there are a few things that you can do to make the move easier. If you don’t have a will, or Miller’s Trust (estate trust) in place, you may want to talk to an Attorney to create one for you.
Also, if you would like to have a voice in how your healthcare and last wishes are handled, you may want to prepare an advance directive. Check out a document called Five Wishes at fivewishes.org.
Finances – What are “Waivers?”
Waiver programs offer people who meet an institutional level of care the ability to receive care in a community or assisted living residence rather than a nursing care facility. There are income limits and eligibility requirements. These waivers are called
1) Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) waiver, and
2) Alaskans Living Independently (ALI) waiver. Both are accepted at briar Rose Assisted Living.
Choosing Services – Finding a Care Coordinator

- 10:00 am: Exercise class – A certified fitness instructor will lead a low-impact exercise class for residents to improve their physical health and mobility.
- 2:00 pm: Bingo – Residents can enjoy a game of bingo with prizes.
- 6:00 pm: Movie night – A movie will be screened in the activity room for residents to enjoy.
- 10:00 am: Gardening – Residents can participate in a gardening activity, planting and caring for flowers and vegetables.
- 2:00 pm: Art therapy – A licensed art therapist will lead a session where residents can express themselves through art.
- 6:00 pm: Karaoke night – Residents can sing along to their favorite songs and participate in group performances.
- 10:00 am: Craft class – Residents can participate in a guided craft session, creating new projects and socializing with each other.
- 2:00 pm: Movie screening – A movie will be screened in the activity room for residents to enjoy.
- 6:00 pm: Game night – A variety of board games and card games will be available for residents to play and socialize.
- 10:00 am: Music therapy – A licensed music therapist will lead a session where residents can explore music, instruments, and participate in sing-alongs.
- 2:00 pm: Pet therapy – A trained therapy animal will visit the facility, providing residents with an opportunity to interact and cuddle with the animal.
